To find your final dispositor is based on the traditional system of rulership and help you to discover which ones have the most potency in a chart.

To use this technique, you need to know traditional rulership for each sign:

Aries is ruled by Mars.

Taurus is ruled by Venus.

Gemini is ruled by Mercury.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon.

Leo is ruled by the Sun.

Virgo is ruled by Mercury.

Libra is ruled by Venus.

Scorpio is ruled by Mars (traditional) and Pluto (modern).

Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter.

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn.

Aquarius is ruled by Saturn (traditional) and Uranus (modern).

Pisces is ruled by Jupiter (traditional) and Neptune (modern).

There are three major types of dispositors in this article:

  1. final dispositor (one powerful planet that disposes every planet in the chart);
  2. planets in mutual reception (a pair of planets that dispose each other as well as the rest of the planets in a chart);
  3. a repeating loop of three or more planets that acts as a group dispositor. There will be chart examples of well-known individuals for each type.

Every dispositor will itself have a dispositor, until you get to one that you designate the final dispositor. The final dispositor can become very influential, especially when it is the final dispositor of many or all the planets in a natal chart.

I use only seven traditional planets because they are relevant anyway, keep it simple!

On another hand is very important to see if the final dispositor is stronger, because it depends also of some other criteria:

  1. it is the Ascendant ruler,
  2. it is places in an angular house ((I, X, VII, IV) or in a productive house (XI, V, IX),
  3. in is a part of a stellium,
  4. it is in the same sign with Moon, Ascendant or Sun (but it is not combusting),
  5. it is in conjunction with benefic fixed starts,
  6. it is in direct motion.

Let’s have few examples (I use whole house system):

My natal chart: Monica Lazar, born in 5th March 1970, Bucharest, Romania, 16:30.

Ascendant in Leo is Ruled by Sun in Pisces

Sun in Pisces is ruled by Jupiter in Scorpio

Jupiter in Scorpio is ruled by Mars in Aries

Mars in Aries is the final dispositor for my natal chart

No matter what planet I analyse in the beginning of the chain, the final dispositor is the same, Mars in Aries. Mars in Aries also meets criteria b and f.

Steffi Graf natal chart – born in 14th June 1969, Manheim, Germany, 04:40 AM.

Ascendant, Sun and Moon in Gemini are ruled by Mercury in Gemini.

Jupiter in Virgo is ruled by Mercury in Gemini.

Mars in Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter in Virgo, then again Jupiter in Virgo is ruled by Mercury in Gemini.

Saturn in Taurus in ruled by Venus in Taurus.

The winner is Mercury in Gemini because meet criteria a, b, c, d and e.

Woody Allen natal chart: – born in 1st December 1935, Brooklyn, New York, 22:55.

Ascendant in Mercury is ruled by Mercury in Sagittarius. Mercury in Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter in Sagittarius.

Sun in Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter in Sagittarius.

Mars in Capricorn and Moon in Aquarius are ruled by Saturn in Pisces. Saturn in Pisces is ruled by Jupiter in Sagittarius.

Venus in Libra is in its own rulership.

The winner is Jupiter in Sagittarius because meets criteria b, c, d and f.

Try to play with this technique and you will realise how important is the final dispositor in your chart.
